FREE MY MIND | GHANA 2021

FREE MY MIND, NOT ESCAPE IT.

I came to Ghana in September 2021, my first trip since Zanzibar, Tanzania in 2019 (Yes I’m late to release this content but travelling is evergreen content so bare with me!) And this trip allowed me to realise the need to free my mind, not escape it. I used to see travelling as an escape especially after surviving 2020 and the remnants of that tradegy personally trickling into 2021. In Ghana I was surrounded by the familiar items of home, my childhood & culture, my siblings and extended family, the heat & the utmost feeling of peace - I couldn’t escape it, in fact I didn’t want to. Because it’s where I have established my roots as I embark on real adulthood I can count on that rooted feeling to guide me. I fully embraced this feeling on my trip because I learnt on reflection that it gave me an unexpected strength.

Towards the end of the year, especially in the last months of the year (October - Dec) I always reflect and plan for the following year ahead - doing this allows for preparation and opportunity to flow into my space and routine. Of late I have been delving into certain wellness practices that help me change my routine that aid me in becoming the best me; practices of fitness, gym, rising early and looking good at all times give me a peace I cannot buy.

Travelling for anyone is exciting - to experience different environments and take in beautiful scenery not forgetting the excitement of planning those outfits! But more so it’s very exciting for me and what it does for my mind. The feeling of possibly introducing this into my routine monthly (ambitious lol) or every couple of months gives me a freeness I cannot describe. I can consciously choose to be a part of my new normal, choosing to not waste time making joyful moments at every chance. The mind can be a scary and daunting place I would of loved to go into the psychology of it all but that would of made your reading too long now so I'll leave you with this:

Moments that free my mind, are the type of moments I‘ll continually pray for.
